Wild Bird Live Food

Everyone knows about feeding birds through the winter but birds energy requirements are fairly even throughout the year and it is now recommended that we feed birds throughout the year.

Feed in the winter as birds need energy to keep warm. Feed in the spring and summer as birds need energy for the breeding season and for the annual moult which follows. Feed in the autumn as birds need energy to get ready for winter plus many birds arrive hungry after migrating.
As their energy requirements are constant, it is now recommended that we feed birds in our garden all year round. Our range of feeds are ideal for all year round feeding and include:

Live bird food, mealworms and mini mealworms are ideal for feeding all year round. Free postage & packing on all live and dried mealworms and waxworms.

For people who want to feed mealworms but don't like handling live mealworms. 100g is approximately 700 dried mealworms.

Live Mealworms

Mealworms (Tenebrio molitor) are our best selling live food, and the number one choice for feeding wild birds. They are the larvae of the Flour Beetle, a native British insect which eats flour, meal, grain and other related crops. Their bodies are made up of over 48% crude protein and 40% fat making them an excellent, proven food for all insect eating garden birds.

How to store: Mealworms can easily be stored in a garage or utility room because they are clean and odourless. They keep well at room temperature. Should you wish to store them for longer you can transfer them to the warmest part of your fridge, away from the icebox. Includes postage and packing.

Live Mini Mealworms

Minis are young mealworms (13 to 18mm long). As with the other mealworm species we supply their diet is vegetarian. This means that they are safe to feed to birds and cannot pass on diseases which may be found in larvae fed on meat, such as maggots. Particularly moist, Minis are very suitable for feeding to fledglings as they are unable to obtain water by drinking. Includes postage and packing.

Live Waxworms

Waxworms (Galleria mellonella) are larvae of the Greator Wax Moth and get their name because they are most commonly found in honeycombs of beeswax. Their soft body is easily digestible and very nutritious making them an even juicier meal than mealworms. Our waxworms will not pupate into moths. Includes postage and packing.
