Clematis

Clematis like well-drained, preferably akaline soil and should be planted much deeper than the pot surface. Most varieties are best shaded at the root, either with a mulch of leafmould or gravel chippings. The vigour of the plant is helped by the addition of bonemeal, rotted stable manure, or other organic fertiliser lightly forked into the surface in spring. Care must be taken not to damage the delicate stems at the base.
